I’m a road cyclist. I do most of my riding in the Cass, White, and Pinelog area. To most this is known as the Budweiser route. I have spoken with my fellow cyclist about these routes; we have all come to the same conclusion. Cyclist of theses routs need some type of facility, a start/stopping place with restrooms and more. I would like to create central place that a cyclist community can grow.
So I have started to work utilizing the land I have turning it into a start / stop cycling park. Soon any cyclist can choose to park their vehicle here and ride or just use the restroom as a pit stop. There will be plenty of parking, water, picnic tables in the shade, and for now a port-a-john. As the park grows there are plans for permanent restrooms, showers, and changing areas.
At this location there will be less traffic than starting from the bud plant. This will create new routes for riders to enjoy. We are working on them now. Soon the roads will be marked with new routes. Maps will be located at the park with space for rider input. Logs will be available for you to mark the map and write down your comments such as dog problems, road construction, hostile drivers, and upset land owners. I believe this will allow us to develop a better informed biking community, working together to encourage good road cycling etiquette, requiring animal restraints when necessary, locating and retaining additional rest stops and increasing the awareness of road safety for cyclists and motorists alike.
I’m footing the bill for this as I can but I have put a donation box out if anyone would like to help. You can also donate via PayPal to soswade@yahoo.com. Or by clicking one of the PayPal Donate buttons.
